Another day of steadily increasing southerly breeze meant the green fleet came ashore at lunch time and had their trophy presentation early after completing 9 races. Ruby Pike from B&SYC came first, just ahead of Ella Konings and Max Brown from Goolwa, with Austin Higgins, the youngest competitor at 6 years of age, coming fourth. All the green fleet sailors received a prize and a medal because they’re all champions!
The intermediate fleet completed 7 races with B&SYC sailor Quinn Auricht coming first ahead of Jonas Barrett 2nd and Harry Higgins 3rd, Stella Weymouth from ASC came in fourth. The encouragement award of a North Sail went to Alexi Wigglesworth.
In Open fleet 10 races were completed with Matt Meaney sailing a very consistent regatta to come first, 12 points ahead of Hugo Hamilton from Tasmania. Second South Aussie was Sam Magarey, third SA sailor was Alex Higgins. The entry numbers were boosted this year with the inclusion of the Australian Optimist Sailing Team members who had been taking part in a three day training clinic at B&SYC in the days before the State Champs. It was a great opportunity for some of our less experienced local sailors to see the best Opti sailors in Australia up close.
The award for most improved sailor since last State Champs went to Alex Magarey.
A big thank you to our sponsors for all the great gear they donated for prizes, it’s great to be able to give every sailor something because they all did so well.
