We need you to register your attendance with IODASA for planning of coaches, support boats, uniform and transport.

How a come and try day triggered an amazing adventure

Alexi was 9 years old when he first hopped into a sailing dinghy at a ‘come and try’ day at the Brighton Seacliff Yacht Club.  That day he discovered a passion for a sport he hadn’t previously known existed.  

Alexi is now 13, and during the most recent school holidays competed in the 2017 World Championships in Thailand in the Optimist class sailing boat.  The Worlds Championships are held every year and this was the largest ever held with 281 of the top ranked sailors attending from 62 countries. 

After sailing six races over three days in a ‘qualifying series’ sailors were divided into four fleets based on their ranking.  Alexi was ranked at 47th,  of the 281 competitors, which meant he sailed a further three day ‘final series’ with 72 of the top ranked sailors from around th...

A great bunch of coaches and support boats to help the sailors improve over their skills over the 2 days

This is an Optimist class event, but any sailor under 15 is welcome to Join in for the weekend, as they are for any optimist event throughout the season. The sailor needs to be a member of the association (IODASA) and borrow or lease an optimist boat to use. This is a great opportunity for sailors to improve overall sailing skills and take these skills to your regular class. Contact the association for further questions or assistance.

SA Sailing Team Selection Notification

The South Australian Sailing Team program(s) aims to be the leading providers of high performance sailing programs in South Australia for talented athletes enabling them to achieve national and international success.

The SA Sailing Team is the underpinning program to the State Sailing Performance Program (SSPP – SA) and is managed & funded by Australian Sailing (AS). Both programs operate under the SA Sailing Team banner

The Optimist Class is involved in this program which is open to all South Australian Optimist Sailors. Selection to the 2017-2018 Sailing Team is via application. Note: Applications close 24th April 2017

2017 MUSTO State Championships Entries Close this Friday 14th April

Just a quick note to advise all sailors and families that late entries for the 2017 MUSTO State Championships close this Friday 14th April. After this date a late entry fee will apply. Get in now to ensure you get the early bird entry rate.

We can also inform you that Wallaroo Sailing Club will provide a catering option with  lunches and drinks available each day of the Clinic and Championships. Dinner will also be available on Saturday evening. Further details to be available soon.

In order to enable the IODASA Committee to make sure they have the correct resources available for the State Championships and Pre-States Clinic it would be appreciated if people can register asap.
